Madilyn Mei MotorCo Durham

Madilyn Mei is an up and coming bedroom pop artist who just last July on the 11th broke out with her first headlining tour all across the U.S.A. supported by Sparkbird, and with live stage help from her primary producer Scrawny.

Madilyn Mei started her break into music seriously with her first EP “Not an Album” releasing in 2019, and although this track list holds some fan favorites, such as Stolen Smiles, and Knotted Constellations, it was not her big break. Madilyn Mei’s first big break came in 2022 when she released the song “Blue Haired Boy” and it went viral on TikTok. It’s short length, catchy nature, and awkward relatability made it a viral sound for people to put over their videos. These sort of awkward catchy tunes is what Madilyn Mei quickly got known for.

Since then Madilyn Mei has made efforts to continuously reinvent her music in her own style with her late 2023 release “Promise You Won’t Scream” and her upcoming EP “The Bard” releasing on August 16th. Both EP’s follow strong but very different themes with her 2023 release holding strong horror elements and her single “The Side Quest Song”, and her “The Bard” EP both calling back to her whimsical older songs while feeling still fresh and new to her discography.

Madilyn Mei’s EP having a whimsical feel definitely followed her on this tour across the country. She asked fans to dress up and they listened. As seen in the concert I attended in Durham, and in many of her photos on Instagram you could not go to a concert without seeing a crowd of fans in cosplay akin attire.

This whimsical feel also followed her onto the stage, as she adorned a variety of outfits all carrying the feel of fantasy that she embodied through her songs, performance, and stage set up. Even going as far as to have a knight prop that she would call her “Co-Artist” on stage.

Overall she put on a wonderful performance throughout her whole tour that I was glad to see, ever more shown by the amount of wonderful crafts and gifts that her fans brought to show her their appreciation for her music.
